PURPOSE

Since 2014 tens of thousands of people have contributed to the Estonian Society of Wounded Soldiers by buying blue hepatica flower pins, donating in excess of 300,000 Euros to assist veterans.  In 2014, the donations were used to purchase mobility aids and other rehabilitation equipment for the East-Tallinn Hospital Clinic for Medical Rehabilitation. In 2015, the proceeds were used to purchase a robotic exoskeleton system – an innovative rehabilitation system used throughout Europe – was purchased for the Haapsalu Neurological Rehabilitation Centre. In 2016, the campaign supported the NGO Peaasjad that promotes mental health, the Estonian Association of Physiotherapists that organizes professional training for specialists, and the Rehabilitation and Well-being Centre of Pärnu Hospital in purchasing a muscle strengthening device.

From spring 2016 the goal was to extend the number of beneficiaries supported by the campaign proceeds. The Estonian Society of Wounded Soldiers used the proceeds from the sales of Blue Hepatica products to support the rehabilitation, sports and further education of wounded veterans and their family members. In addition, the association supported different projects that contribute to the rehabilitation treatment system and mental health care services for all patients, including injured servicemen.

In addition to supporting wounded veterans, 2017 spring’s proceeds from the sales of Blue Hepatica products were used to create an outdoor gym for people with reduced mobility along the Haapsalu Promenade, to purchase a lift for people with reduced mobility to have access to the pool at the Ida-Viru Central Hospital Rehabilitation Department and to support the NGO Peaasjad.

This spring, in addition to veterans, the Estonian Society of Wounded Soldiers is helping the South-Estonian Hospital Foundation in purchasing rehabilitation equipment, NGO Peaasjad in continuing to promote mental health, the town of Võru in building open-air gym, and Estonian Union of Disability Sports in conducting trainings for sitting volleyball and participating in competitions.

The charity campaign is led by NGO Estonian Society of Wounded Soldiers and Naiskodukaitse
